Exploring Jack chapter 1

What he says- “Isn’t there a man here?”     “Choir! stand still!”     “Alright then, sit down, let him alone.”     “He’s always throwing a faint.”   “Aren’t there any grown-ups?”   “Then we’ll have to look after ourselves.”   “Kids names-why should i be Jack? I’m Merridew.”

How is he described- “tall, thin and bony. His hair was red beneath the black cap…crumpled and freckled, ugly without silliness…two light blue eyes, frustrated now, and turning, or ready to turn, to anger.”

How he acts and response towards others- Politely “Isn’t there a man here?”; “Aren’t there any grown-ups” Here Jack doesn’t seem to be angry or to act like he is ; Inquiringly   “Kids names-why should i be Jack? I’m Merridew” He wants to be treat like an adult so he want the others to call him by his surname  . Adultly  “Then we’ll have to look after ourselves” In this quotation we can see that Jack is not behaving like a child or a teenager he is behaving like and adult.     Aggressively “Alright then, sit down, let him alone.” Here we can see that Jack don’t like people that are weak.

  1. This, again, shows you are able to select details about the character but you must develop your justifications of each quotation. How has this helped you to understand Jack? Why?

Please remember to use quotation marks.
